When I was a young girl, I wished for many things. Health-wise, they were all related…to be comfortable in my own skin, have better self-esteem, to be fit and to enjoy running. Now, had I enjoyed running, maybe all the others would have come along. But good grief did I detest it. In gym class, my gym teacher’s words, “We’re going down to the track for a run, girls!” were excruciating to me. Had Girls on the Run (GOTR) existed when I was in grade school, those wishes could have been granted a long time ago!
How awesome it would have been to receive the gift of running at an early age. To have volunteers and coaches working with me to ensure I felt a sense of purpose, empowerment, confidence and that my potential in life had no limits. One of my wishes is that other little girls can experience that now. I mean, they could wait thirty-some years like I did, but nah–there’s no time like the present!
Thanks to Athleta, more little girls will be able experience the crucial psychological, physical, social skills and abilities that are developed and reinforced throughout GOTR all with the support of your #MyFitWish. For every #MyFitWish that is submitted online before December 23, Athleta will donate $2 to Girls on the Run for a maximum donation of $5000.
